Isla Urbana Tlaloque

Isla Urbana is a non-profit organization that believes a scarcity of clean water for humans is an unacceptable injustice. Daily, millions of people living in Mexico City strain to meet their fundamental water demands. To address the lack of water supply in some areas of Mexico City, Isla Urbana has designed a system that collects and cleans rainwater to be used in homes and other buildings. They have already installed 725 systems. I was offered the unique opportunity to work with them and help develop part of their system. The Tlaloque is a first flush tank that separates the dirtiest water from the water that goes into the system. The challenge was to design a single, roto molded piece that met the challenge.
